What is the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation?
Founded in 1966, the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation is the
nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational and fund-raising organization
that supports the development of the National Museum of Naval
Aviation. NAMF has more than 13,000 dues-paying members, over
1,200 of whom live in the Pensacola area. The Foundation is
financially self-supporting through various revenue-generating
operations--such as the Museum's IMAX Theater and the Flightdeck
Museum Store--so that 100 percent of all donations is used for
the development of the Museum and support of associated educational
programs. NAMF has raised tens of millions of dollars over the
years in support of the Museum.
In fulfilling it's educational mission, the Naval Aviation Museum
Foundation publishes a magazine of Naval Aviation history called
"Foundation" and hosts an annual symposium at the
Museum. Among the Foundations most important and far-reaching
initiatives is the operation of the Flight Adventure Deck and
the development of the upcoming National Flight Academy: a week-long
school for 7th through 12th graders that promises to be a revolution
in science and technology education.
